Windows 7 Starter Specifications

With many criticism and conflicts finally, the much awaited Windows 7 starter edition is released. Just when people started celebrating the removal of 3 applications limit in Windows 7 starter edition, it was heard that Redmond is planning to impose strict limitations on what type of machines get to run with Windows 7 starter Specification. Apart from limitation of Windows 7 starter edition in low end computers it was also told that Windows 7 starter edition will be sold only to Microsoft’s OEM partners such as Dell, Acer, and Toshiba etc.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer confirmed some of the restrictions which will come pre-installed in Windows 7 starter edition.

Windows 7 Starter editionWindows 7 starter edition can only be installed in machine with maximum screen size of 10.2”. It can support 1 GB of RAM and 250 GB of hard disk drive. It is limited to 64GB of soft disk drive. There is no limitation of graphics and touch in Windows 7 starter edition. It will work well in single core processors with a maximum of 2 GHz frequency. The thermal design power of CPU should be restricted to 15 W.

Microsoft also predicted that most of OEM’s will ignore the max specs and will go for Windows 7 Home Premium since it runs better in netbook as compared to Windows Vista. However, they want to check how it works at Computex. Microsoft is sure that the popularity of Windows 7 starter edition will bring in a wave of 10.2” netbooks with 1 GB of RAM and 2GHz process in near future.
