Progressing towards Windows 7

Posted by Remote Computer Support on Tuesday, December 22, 2009

Windows 7, the newest operating system from the Microsoft, is not like its predecessor Windows Vista. It removes several displeasing points and adds up some new welcome features. The Windows 7 Preview was a pre beta launch which implies that it was not close to its feature completion. The possibility was good that later launch would add or remove certain important features like Sidebar, Calculator, WordPad, Paint, battery power, Wi-Fi networks, customization of system tray, User Account Control and many more.

Although the new Windows 7 includes various improvements such as stability and performance, however under the hood with a good technical explanations would make operating system coders somewhat happy. As, the list of the features mentioned above is completely depends on the regular users experience. There are a few points that will be closely seen in the new Windows 7 are as:

In the new Windows 7, the sidebar is no more included. Dead Sidebar, is one of the important thing which was removed and killed in Windows Vista. It was loaded in the Windows Vista to the right side of the desktop as a default.

Ability to connect between Wi-Fi networks just in a single click from the system tray, users can click on the Wi-Fi adapter in the system tray, which pop up a menu of available wireless networks. You can thus refresh the list from there, and can select the network you want to connect in a single click.

Calculator, WordPad, and Paint got improved and restored, in Windows 7, the built-in Photo Gallery and movie-making software has been removed, which was available earlier in Windows Vista. WordPad and Paint have been added with the MS Office 2007 ribbon installed.

Faster start up of Windows 7, Windows Vista is slow in starting up whereas even the preview beta launch of Windows 7 had shown a 20% faster boot times than Vista. This denotes that Windows 7 starts much faster as compared to the previous editions of Windows operating system.

Notebook's battery power improved, many of the desktop users would be surprised to know that the new Windows 7, will run more efficiently and longer on battery. It is a good news for the Notebook owners. Generally, Windows Vista power management was absolutely better than Windows XP, but Windows 7's performance is remarkably better still. All this depends on some intelligent management techniques like the smarter background management.

Latest Windows 7 has improved user interfaces and gives better performance than its predecessor. But in reality, there's not much fundamental contrast between these two. Windows Vista and Windows 7 have the same hardware requirements, identical hardware and software compatibility models, but Windows 7 does improved on Vista with an interesting virtualization feature. From the comparison, Windows 7 is also a more compelling edition of its predecessor, Windows Vista, providing enhanced usability, dramatically better performance, and unlimited compatibility options that were not available just a few years ago. It will also lead in an era of 64-bit computing in a way that was only initiated with Windows Vista. And like XP, Windows 7 amplifies on the topic of simplification and experiences, providing users with a finely-tuned user inerfaces that makes common activities simple.

Windows 7: Microsoft's Best Operating System

Posted by Remote Computer Support on Monday, October 19, 2009

Windows 7 can be titled as the "Best OS."
Its going to erase the blot that Vista left. With all the rumors going in the environment I was quite skeptical when I got the RTM CD and slipped it into the optical drive of my tow year old Compaq V3000. Its robustness, speed and overall look is amazing. In fact Windows 7 provides better GUI in comparision with Vista, hence we can say it is an evolution of Vista. Microsoft has listened to its customers and tweaked every portion of the OS that needed to be optimized with the result that, for the first time in its history, it has an OS that is widely deployable without having to wait for the first service pack.

Window 7 boots, shuts down and resumes faster than Vista did. Unlike its predecessor, the OS comes pre-tuned and it runs only what’s needed making it a svelte OS that can run in memory configurations comparable to XP while providing a modern GUI and all the additional features that Microsoft had added in Vista and then some. If you want to migrate from Vista to Windows 7, then the earlier driver will be compatible. The next thing is Compatibility Mode, suppose if you are not able to run any earlier program due to loss of compatibility then don't be hopeless. You can run that program from Compatibility Mode.

One of the major concern today is regarding security of our data. In this field Windows 7 has brought some innovative tools like:

BitLocker : It caps your data from hackers or theft.

How can you help protect your data from loss, theft, or hackers? The answer: BitLocker. BitLocker keep a security lock on your documents, it keep everything in encrypted form on external drive . You are even safe if you have misplaced your portable storage devices like USB flash drives and external drives.

Direct Access: In the corporate world lots of energy is spend on building Virtual private networks, now Windows 7 brings the Direct Access to save your time and energy. It commits secure connection to remote client without dealing with VPNs. This is an quite innovative gift to mobile user and sufficient reason for switching to Windows 7.

AppLocker: Now corporate has a good management over their software. It will inhibit any unauthorized access to any program. Ordinary users will not be able to install new programs however they can run it. It organization can keep a track on their user if they are involved in malpractice such as playing with settings designed for Internet Explorer. AppLocker addresses this problem and lets IT centrally configure who can run which application. AppLocker checks each program against corporate policies when a user tries to start it. Though it can be difficult to implement in a large organization, IT can get some immediate benefits by rolling AppLocker out to highly managed workstations.

Thus we can see Windows 7 will bring harmony and peace of mind for both personal user and business user.
